My Role
I led the creation and facilitation of collaborative exercises and discovery methods to help the LA Phil team plan their approach for the website redesign. Some of the exercises and methods that I used were:
- Content audit of the current website
- A sitemap of the current website
- A competitive analysis
- Using The Three Lenses of Innovation approach to score and prioritize features, bug fixes and enhancements that the LA Phil team had started to identify.
Website content audit
As a first step, I identified 85 main pages of the website to gain better insight of the type of content that LA Phil is currently providing their users, to identify the most engaging types of content the site currently provides, to review the information architecture of the site and to understand which pages offer the best user experience for the visitors. What we found with this audit is that the current website offers many individual pages to the users, is actually very light on content, it is very redundant and it doesn’t provide an in-depth experience.

Sitemap and Information architecture
Our UX researchers conducted extensive usability studies with LA Phil users. Through these usability studies, we were able to identify some common themes that participants mentioned concerning their wayfinding and information navigation throughout the site. I created a sitemap of the current website along with some initial information architecture recommendations that were based on what we heard from our usability study participants as well as best practices.

Competitive analysis
I put together a high-level competitive analysis to help all stakeholders get a “quick read” of the landscape and see what other orchestra and philharmonic websites are doing to engage their existing and new customers. The competitive analysis looked at the different elements of the sites such as the homepages and what features are available on the homepage, the navigation, the search and calendar features, the maturity level of the websites’ accessibility and overall content and design.
The Three Lens of Innovation
As part of our usability study, our UX researchers provided the LA Phil team with recommendations based on what we heard from our participants. The team at LA Phil started putting together a backlog of issues, bugs and feature enhancements. To help prioritize the efforts, I had the team go through The Three Lens of Innovation exercise, where we had all the issues in the backlog scored by their feasibility, desirability and viability. We then looked at the total scores when prioritizing the list.
